In 1969, when Todd Gates was seven, his family traveled from Virginia to Naples to visit friends.
Because his father had polio and his mother was a nurse, they didn’t have much money.
So they drove their truck on the beach in North Naples and camped out in the moonlight, roasting their dinner over a campfire.
“It seemed like a teeny fishing village then,” he said.
